Interesting Offer

Anyone here have a review?

Heads up, they don’t allow Tor non-exit relays. Presumably this indicates they’re overselling their bandwidth quite a bit.

Yup TOR as well as public/commercial VPN/Proxy also not allowed, though person VPN/Proxies are allowed

How did you come to the conclusion that “no Tor” == oversold BW?

@hostEONS I am kind of sorry but this is too many offers rolled into one … let me reread this a few times and see if anything computes. :frowning:

So, I can get two KVM VPS for the price of one PLUS DA and Blesta, as well as use the three other coupons by ticket ( | DOUBLERAM | DOUBLEDISK | UPGRADE) to get these upgrades as well?

Ok, I bought …

We don’t allow TOR as we don’t want to deal with unwanted abuse, same reasons as not allowing commercial VPN/Proxy, it has nothing to do with bandwidth overselling

Yeah added too many offers in a single thread, will avoid in future and thanks for your business

Tor non-exit relays don’t have potential for abuse though, so that argument doesn’t hold up very well. Your argument would make more sense if you explicitly did not allow Tor Exit relays, which do have potential for abuse complaints because of their forward facing nature.

Unless you mean resource abuse, in case it would make sense to specify explicit throughput limits, not ban it entirely, and adds to the likelihood that you’re overselling bandwidth beyond what you could reasonably maintain.

I would appreciate it if you were more transparent about your reasons for banning Tor relays in the future. There isn’t anything inherently wrong with overselling bandwidth beyond capacity and needing to do traffic shaping, which is the business model of Virmach, to offer rock-bottom pricing schemes.

Comeon why do you keep assuming that it has anything to do with bandwidth overselling ?

Our deal with our colo provider is for unmetered bandwidth so we are not at worried about Bandwidth usage

Regarding explicitly mentioning that TOR/TOR Exit not being allowed it’s clearly mentioned in our AUP that it’s not allowed

It may not get direct abuse complains but it gets our IP Listed in certain RBL and TOR Sites (Don’t really remember the names since we don’t get complains about it anymore) which leads to abuse complains from our IP Provider.

You are just trying to make us look like the bad player or somebody who oversells resources and really don’t get it why are you doing it ? And all of this you are doing it just because you are assuming that we oversell resources

I feel that you’re deliberately misinterpreting what I’m trying to communicate.

I did not say that you did not list Tor within your AUP. I’m stating that you’re being less than transparent about your business practices and justifications for it.

It may not get direct abuse complains but it gets our IP Listed in certain RBL and TOR Sites (Don’t really remember the names since we don’t get complains about it anymore) which leads to abuse complains from our IP Provider.

While it’s true that it’s possible to get listed on lists of relays that are improperly used by webmasters, this is almost always temporary and ends shortly after the Tor relay goes offline. It’s a very poor justification. It is largely the user that suffers, not the maintainers of the IP space.

I would appreciate if you could find the RBLs that conduct this kind of practice. As far as I am aware, this doesn’t happen, and it would be nice to know.

You are just trying to make us look like the bad player or somebody who oversells resources and really don’t get it why are you doing it ? And all of this you are doing it just because you are assuming that we oversell resources

You’re not necessarily a bad player for banning Tor. It would just be nice if you were more straightforward, honest and transparent with your business practices on overselling bandwidth or claims of abuse.

I’m not deliberately trying to misinterpret you, just trying to figure out what makes you assume we are overselling anything at all ?

We have listed clearly listed TOR is not allowed on our network so which business practice you are talking about ?

Do you want us to list our whole TOS and AUP in each and every offer thread that we post ?

The practice itself is flawed, and the only valid justification I see for it is that you are overselling bandwidth to lower your pricing, which isn’t happening here. You’re ignoring what I have to say, and that’s fine. I’m just not going to buy from you, for Tor or Non-Tor services regardless, and you can continue to make questionable decisions as you’d like.

Well just for your info i just did a little search in google and found DNSL that blacklists TOR IP

you can find many more

It’s sad to hear that we are not going to get your business, but if you were going to use it for TOR then thanks we will have to deal with one less complain about ABUSE from our IP Provider

Yes, but now that I have opened a support ticket, I am being told that I cannot get the offer because I did not apply a coupon at purchase though the offer clearly states to open a ticket to request the upgrades!!!

Hello,

Upon checking I could see that you have not applied any coupon during the purchase time. You can apply coupon only during the purchase time.

Could you please give me ticket ID as need to see what exactly you ordered

Ok i just found your ticket you have ordered the VPS Bundle you cannot use any coupon or promo with it, clearly stated in the thread itself:

That’s a very aggressive and unnecessary tone. I think you’re implying that the only reason why I would purchase your services is to run a Tor relay, and that’s neither true, nor should it be wrong. In practice, you’re scaring away normal customers with your tone, while abusers wouldn’t hesitate to sign up regardless of what your AUP says to break the rules, because they don’t care.

I think there’s a lot of value in customers that do take the time to read the AUP instead of folks who just sign up, feeling like they’re entitled to do whatever they’d like. I’m criticizing your position here, but I do feel I have enough ethics not to sign up with the intention of breaking your rules.

DAN Tor doesn’t list any old Tor relays. It explicitly scrapes the network every 30 minutes, and is not particularly used by anyone except web administrators, who would update the list quite regularly if they wanted it to be effective. It has no bearing on email deliverability, and again, this seems to be an exceptionally poor excuse.

I’ve no intention to offend you or anybody else, especially when I’m trying to get business here .

But inspite of the fact we have clearly stated what is allowed and what is not allowed you are still accusing us of overselling.

We provide budget VPS and we have no interest in wasting our resources in dealing with abuse so we just don’t allow TOR/commercial/Public VPN/Proxies.

Ok, gotcha! Like I said, my eyeballs were crossed trying to figure the multitude of different things out … that said, please confirm if the Blesta and/or DA license would apply. The way I read it, Blesta definitely … but am wondering on the DA as it says “applicable on KVM VPS 2-7” and I ordered KVM VPS-2.
