sadly I sandbox most of all my tabs so cookies are never retained, a simple userscript anyway was enough 
I’m afraid you have to use the option in settings to choose that

So do we But a lot of people don’t understand that you can switch between themes here. Not using the light theme was negatively affecting us, so we made the decision to set the light theme as the default since people usually go looking for a dark theme, but not for a light theme.
