Why do they start with _spf?

Simple question: I see some records start with _spf for the SPF record of course. Does it have any special meaning? Or is this because they want to do it that way?

For example: _spf.firebasemail.com

that’s for domain SPF record.

That’s how Al Gore imagined it.

Probably to make it appear at the top of an alphabetically sorted zone editor.

Is he still alive ? Thought he had a stroke after overheating too much.

lol

So the name is not important? I thought some protocol say it has to be that name.

At least not to the internet at large, though I suppose I can’t rule out some specific software (though not likely an MTA as I’d have noticed some not following the standard).
