Need some help figuring out parts for a Plex server

We’ve got lights!!!

Took pics during the build process and will post those later. Don’t mind my server closet clutter :stuck_out_tongue: it’s far from being tidy.

Plex - You already have the files saved, regardless of source (could be from torrenting, usenet or just personal files off a DVD)

Popcorn Time - you’re “streaming” it off other peers on that specific torrent, meanwhile you’re seeding it in the background until you stop watching the movie. (no data is saved after you stop watching it)

Hope you’re not using mobile data, because here comes a ton of pics

Server arrived in one piece, thankfully.

Thanks man. And I appreciate the help!

Just talked to presales at FDC Servers so far, definitely going with them in NY. They said to let them know when I’m ready to proceed and they’ll set me up an account and give me the IPMI info to preconfigure. Likely will be doing it in a couple weeks.

Damn so new plex server? Will you invite me???

Yeah - want to get away from mounted Gdrives as they sometimes have issues and I know will eventually come to an end and all my data will be nuked at some point :stuck_out_tongue:

Everyone on my Plex server now will of course be given an invite to the new server

Looking good Mason! That sure is a beast you have there.

Looking good! Did you end up testing the power draw?

Using IPMI’s readings it’s at ~125W while doing some light stuff. Didn’t try putting the pedal to the metal yet, I’ll report back when I do

Well shit… I’ve just realized that the RAID cards that came with the server don’t support RAID 6 (or 5 even) – only 0, 1, 1E, and 10. Definitely need RAID 6 for my storage drives. Hmm.

Can anyone recommend any other RAID cards or even just SAS controllers (w/o RAID if there’s such a thing and I’ll just use SW RAID). I have three Mini-SAS SFF8087 cables coming from the backplane to the controllers, so whatever I get will have to accept that, either 2x 2-port SFF-8087 cards, or 1x 4-port SFF-8087 card.

If you can get the cards to present HDDs direct to the system, just software raid

If that’s an option, then I’ll definitely do that. I’ll do some digging to see if that’s possible.

Flash these to an IT mode.

Quick update (sorry for being annoying y’all :stuck_out_tongue:)-

LSI Cards are flashed into IT mode painlessly, special thanks to @FHR!

There’s been a new development. I’ve convinced my mom to upgrade her internet to fiber 1gig up/down at her place, so looks like I’ll be colo’ing my server in my Mom’s basement, lol! Will be cheaper and less hassle in the long run since I won’t have to ship it anywhere and can get my hands on it for free and easily.
